Avoid Overpacking

First Choice Vacation Homes Blog
We are all guilty of packing far too many clothes, shoes, hats and accessories when it comes going abroad.  A great rule is to pack half of what you think you need, it will be hard but here are some helpful tips to reduce the amount of items in your suitcase!

Weather Research
It is important to check the weather at your destination.  If you know that you will have dry weather for the duration of your trip take a risk and leave the umbrella at home!  If the nights are very cool, pack layers for warmth, rather than chunky jumpers which take up most of your suitcase!

Clothes Planning
It is a good idea to prepare your clothes around one main colour, for instance khaki or black are a fantastic neutral colours that you can dress and accessorise for different events and days.  A great tip os to take dark colours and prints that hide the dirt!!

Wear bulky items onboard
When travelling to your detsination why not travel in your bulkiest clothing items, this will save you plenty of space in your luggage.

Accessories
Take a few scarves and belts to add variety to your outfits.  A good tip is to take a mix of casual and smart accesories to cater for the days and evenings.

Clothing Types
Opt for clothing that is washable and lightweight.  Choose a few light layers that take up little space in the suitcase, yet dry quickly should you need to do any washing.

Check your Itinerary
If you have some formal events and casual evenings you can cater accordingly and avoid bringing those unnecessary items.

Cut down on Toiletries
Many shops nowadays offer sample sizes of shampoo, conditioners, sunscreen and perfume that last for 4-5 days, so pack these rather than the larger varieties and avoid having to bring them back!  Another great tip is to use your shampoo as showergel!

Every time I go on holiday I always end up overpacking, in fact each year I take more lol! I think I might try using some of these tips this year, as Im off to Milan, so I will definitely be shopping till I drop and will need plenty of room to bring all my purchases back! =)
