American Virgin Islands
A popular cruise ship destination, with a laidback vibe and paradise scenery that contradicts its name, the American Virgin Islands has only two things in common with the US, the flag and postal trucks.
St Thomas, St Croix and St John are the biggest and busiest of the 60 islands, most of the islands are inhabited.
St Thomas is the most americanised and commercial of the three, though it still has striking surroundings and has over 40 beaches.
St Croix is the largest of the American Virgin Islands and a very peaceful island which can be reached by fast ferry from St Thomas. With a mixture of different landscapes and scenic beaches, full of culture and ideas, and examples of Danish colonial architecture in St Croix towns.
St John is a small paradise hideaway, full of mountains and sandy beaches, and location of a National Park that has one of the largest areas of wilderness in the Caribbean.
Summer temperatures in the American Virgin Islands tend to be 28°C and in the winter 25°C, water is always warm and trade winds keep humidity low.
